Bah Humbug! Christmas Cheer Ale

5% alc./vol., 500 ml bottle
Marston’s PLC –
Witney, England

I’m getting mixed messages from this beer’s name, but I think I’ll stay with the “Bah Humbug!” sentiment and not the “Cheer” sentiment.  The label tasting notes describe it as “beer with cinnamon” but the ingredients list say “cloves and coriander” with no cinnamon to be found.  Bah humbug!  Sure enough, there’s no cinnamon on the palate, just very subtle hints of the other spices.  It’s malty, which I suppose is intended to fortify my character for the cold weather and orgy of commercialism that is December.  I’m seldom in the Christmas spirit and in need of some fortification.  Maybe I need to be visited by three spirits, although if Scrooge were keeping accurate count (he is head of a counting house) he would have counted Marley for a total of four spirits.  Maybe their inaccurate count of ingredients is paying homage to the man.
