DSCF1281I’m trying and failing to come up with a good name for this colour.  Dark orange is the best I can do, but there’s some pink in there too as the beer’s name suggests.  I’m used to a few spices in wheat beer, but this one has hibiscus flowers too that provide this unique colour.  Hibiscus tea is a popular herbal tea…I wonder if they just toss in some hibiscus tea leaves?  The cloudiness tells you it’s unfiltered and bottle fermented.  To the nose, it smells like a spicy wheat beer, not like a flower.  In the mouth, it has a most unusual flavour.  I don’t remember if I’ve ever had hibiscus tea specifically, but there is a lot of flavour of a flowery red herbal tea in this.  Like most tea, there’s a slightly bitter aftertaste.  The unnamed spices probably include coriander.  There’s also a fruitiness to it that makes me think of crabapple jelly.  Complex flavour?  You bet!  Do I like it?  Hmm…still thinking about that.  I do like a beer with a complex flavour and long finish.  Like a lot of weird beers, the bottom of the bottle is tastier than the first sip.
