Żywiec in the Zamek Uniejów Castle

West bank of the Warta River, DSCF0433Uniejów, Poland

The town of Uniejów is pretty small, so unless you’re from there you may not know where it is.  It’s almost in the centre of Poland, just like my hometown that you have not heard of is almost in the centre of Canada.  I was able to kayak on the Warta River, visit the nearby saunas and baths, and even had a massage at the health spa.  All of this works up a thirst, so head to the nearby castle, up the steps on the west side, and into a pretty nifty restaurant and bar.  Through it’s 650-year history, the castle on this site has alternated between an archbishop’s palace and a defensive fortress depending on whether it had Polish or German residents.  I am a bit sad that this may be my only Friday Beer in a castle this year.  Beer was good.
