Partridge Green, West Sussex, England
Another big thunderstorm and torrential rain tonight. I had just bought an umbrella, and I was immediately given an opportunity to try it out. No problems at home, since the house is up on high ground. Other parts in the area are not so lucky…last week a few roads washed out on the Québec side. Meanwhile, on the other side of the Atlantic, the more juvenile among us (like me) giggle when they hear about Essex, Sussex, Wessex, and (oh my!) Middlesex. This is not about doing the horizontal tango, it’s just county names that indicated where the Saxons once lived. There is no “Norsex”…for some reason, the north Saxons lived in Middlesex, and that is not very north, being a bit south of the Angles living in Suffolk (the south folk). The West Sussex beer in my hand is a pretty good one. It’s got a full and slightly bitter flavour, making me think of pairing it with cheese or something grilled. I have yet to find a food that’s somehow cooked that I can’t cook on a grill.
