Cherry Ale

4.5% alc./vol., 650 ml bottle
Trafalgar Ales and Meads –
Oakville, Ontario, Canada

DSCF2184[1]My own cherry tree is bearing fruit, so when I saw an Ontario cherry beer at the store, I decided to pick one up.  This despite the fact it’s from Trafalgar…and I’ve not had many good experiences from that brewery.   Well, this beer isn’t all that bad, but apart from the colour there’s only the slightest hint of cherry to it.  You know, maybe that’s not all that bad.  The Belgians really smack your tongue with the fruit in their beers, making the beer sweet and not all that manly.  If you wanted a hard lemonade or one of those other alcopops, then just get one and stay away from the beer.  Still, this is just a teensy little bit too subtle to make me think of cherries.  You know what?  Since I have fresh ripe cherries on the tree a few steps from the kitchen door, I’m going to pick a few and drop them in the glass.  Finally, my gardening and beer drinking can work together for the greater good.
